Pontelandolfo
History
Some findings testify of a first Roman settlement.
It takes its name from Landulf, prince of the Lombards in 980 AD.
Sadly known together with Casalduni for the massacre that was perpetuated by the Italian Royal Army in August of 1861 against the local population as a retaliation against the Brigands.
What to See
Medieval Castle
The tower of the castle over twenty meters high, is the only remnant of the castle destroyed in the earthquake of 1688, it was erected in the 14th century on a fortress already existing in 1134 .
Museum of Peasant Civilization
It preserves artifacts from the rustic and peasant world including various tools for spinning wool.
The Ruzzola of Cheese
During the carnival period it is tradition to roll some forms of cheese along a historic route. Similar traditions are found in some places in Umbria and lower Lazio.
